I tend to get the decluttering /organizing itch when the weather starts getting warm. A huge calming and relaxing effect comes over me when there isn't stuff all over the place. It's like being on vacation, sitting on the beach and listening to the waves crash in. I admit, I haven't been very good at staying on top of things for a few months now.
I've been periodically going through my closets trying to organize and declutter. I've given quite a bit away as donations. I find myself feeling organized and happy, but then not much time passes and I feel all cluttered again. It's that time to do it again so I can feel refreshed.
I started in my bedroom first because I was running out of hangers and closet space. I went through all the dresser drawers and the closet. I trashed old make-up products, removed worn out socks which I recycled as dust rags, put clothes I no longer wear into a pile for donation and recycled the ones with holes. I tend to keep my shoes and clothing until they are worn out, unless I really just don't like them. I had some shoes that my feet are not fond of anymore, so those went into the donation pile too.
After I finished purging, I cleaned all the dust bunnies from the closet floor and my shoes. I put my clothing in order and reoganized my shoes. I put some of my old socks stuffed with newspaper in my tall boots to keep them from falling over. It saves some space in the closet.
Only 13 more areas to go inside the house and then I need to tackle the garage, the filing cabinets, computer files and my email.
What are your favorite decluttering tips or tricks? When do you get the itch to Spring clean?
