South Mountain Reservation, near Millburn, New Jersey, is a beautiful and serene 5-mile loop hike with a panoramic view boasting a lovely waterfall. Read more about South Mountain here. The trails are a combination of dirt, stone and rocks, in addition to a few bridges and stairways to higher elevations.
The leaves have started to change into beautiful autumn colors, but there is still plenty of green remaining.
I was equipped with a tripod and ND filters for my first attempt at long exposure photography of the waterfall. We were disappointed when we arrived to find what appeared to be a dried up waterfall. Not much rain was to be had this summer, so the waters were not flowing.
After a good hike, we followed the sound of water and this was at the end of the trail. As I shot the first photograph below, two white dogs ran into the scene, causing a white ghostly blur from the 1.6 second shutter speed. The other two photographs are pretty good for my first attempt. Practice will make for great improvements.
There were a good amount of areas with streams and ponds. I loved visiting South Mountain Reservation. It's very beautiful and I look forward to coming back many times in the future. If you are in the area, with a couple extra hours on your hands, definitely keep this place in mind.
Don't forget, the FREE GIFT with the purchase of any 2017 Limited Edition Wall Calendar ends this Wednesday. The Summer Flowers calendars are going fast...only 6 remaining!

No ghosts. Two white dogs ran into the shot.
Did you capture some ghosts on the one photo by the waterfall? I didn’t know South Mountain was haunted!
Thank you, Jeff! It was a lovely time.
