Squirrel - work in progress

Colored Pencil Magazine has a monthly art challenge, which I recently discovered. The squirrel above (photo taken by Sally Robertson) is for the January Challenge. I am still a beginner when it comes to colored pencils. I've used them to draw my Christmas cards, but not much else. I'm looking forward to participating in this art challenge every month to get more familiar with different techniques. The photo below shows the beginning stages of my drawing, about 3 hours of work. I tend to keep lists in journals, but have only been keeping a real journal for less than a year.  The more I read about idea journals, the more I think it's something I should give a try. How can we benefit from an idea journal? Ability to keep track of thoughts and ideas every minute of every day.  I don't know about you, but I have a...

For the past year, I've been trying all sorts of different things with art.  I tried painting, jewelry, drawing with colored pencils, using different surfaces and papers, trying to figure out what I like best and my style.     I've always been attracted to flowers, nature, animals, and wildlife with my art.  All those things possess such beauty, integrity, emotion and strength.     When I view other artists' work, I love the bright, beautiful, lively colors of mixed media paintings.  The smoothness of the well blended pastel paintings and colored pencil drawings.     The past couple...
